Do you think that you’re a slow writer? That it just takes so long to get the words onto paper.
You’re not alone.
In fact, there’s a hashtag I see all the time over on Twitter: #turtlewriter.
So there are many other writers just like you out there! Does that mean that it isn’t frustrating? No. But that’s why I have some encouragement here for you to keep in mind.
1) It’s okay
Rome wasn’t built in a day. Lord of the Rings wasn’t written in a day. Harry Potter wasn’t written in a day. A Tale of Two Cities wasn’t written in a day.
That’s not how books are written. It takes time, and that’s okay.
2) Stop comparing yourself
IT’S SO HARD to keep from comparing yourself to other writers. Especially with social media being at our fingertips, all the time, it’s just a difficult thing to keep from doing in general. But people (should) pick and choose what they share online; it’s harder to see the not-so-great things. But everyone struggles. And writing is a deeply personal thing. No two people ever come to the blank page the same way.
Treat it, and yourself, accordingly.
3) Define your struggles!
If something is holding you back, figure out what it is! And take the steps to conquer it! (I have a post mostly about this right here! **anxious**)
4) Find other #turtlewriters!
Like I said, it’s an entire hashtag! :) Surround yourself with people who are like you; you won’t feel so alone or discouraged.
Make the time to write. I say that ALL THE TIME, and I’ll share with you sometime how you can do that. Even if it’s just ten minutes a day, some writing time is better than none.
No matter how many words you write a day, no matter how long it takes you to write them, be proud of yourself for writing your novel!
Just be yourself. Because you’re beautiful and your novel is going to be amazing.
Do you need to ramble about that amazing idea you have?
